Sorry I don't have a picture avtar. I haven't figure out how to add one yet.
I love the concept of Mebeam! Hope I can understand the best way to use it. I experienced frequent disconnects on Mebeam server, probably due to bandwidth limit under heavy traffic. Hope MeServe solves the problem.
I am very interested in learning how to use Meserve. I assume people will be accessing my computer instead MeBeam server, am I right?

Welcome to this forum.
Go to My Account, then to Avatar and Browse for your picture
and Upload it. As your Mebeam support is depending on it.
It is still a big question for most of us for 'How to use MeServe'.
Ashod has promised to give us more information, but he seems
not have had time to do so.
In principle, with the use of a specific made personal client of
Mebeam, which must be accessible through 'your' server, it
should be able for that personal Mebeam client to connect to
your server.
A server is (mostly) depending on its own IP-address, I do not
think that it is possible to realise a working MeServe when the
server has no (real) own IP, without making workarounds...
Because sharing an IP for the server and your other PC's, need to
have some ports forwarded and Flash needs (normally) port 1935.
If you portforward this port to the server, most other Flash
applications will not work anylonger on the other PC's which are
using the same IP address.
Another point of consideration is the needed bandwidth of your
server connection. Each person which is connecting to a server
with Mebeam and video will use your bandwidth, which is about
25-50KB/s per user. Most people do not have sufficient bandwidth
to accomodate a lot of connections that way. Further, the used
internet data traffic is often limited by the ISP (xx GB/month).
Just my thoughts... but correct me if i am wrong

Actually it would be nice to have a small server capable of making each user a MeBeam server owner,
BUT Admin controls and instructions need to be provided.
Commercial MeBeam would naturally be a different story. Those would have to be more proprietary.
Many people would love to run a small 10-20 user server on their website !!! That would be cool.
It would be nice to have a self-installing version that could handle up to 20 users AND have the ability to control the people(idiots) that visit. Control is the keyword. IP blocking using wildcards, a pre-screen area where users MUST have a face on camera before access is granted and things like that.
A small "lobby" with 4 to 5 users would be a good thing. It would allow nasty users to be screened before entering the main area.
Controls to allow "friends" certain privledges over the normal 'drive-by' chatter would be needed.
These privledges would be the playing of music, etc. People need to be able to ALLOW certain users to view their webcams. Ladies need not be forced to allow random wankers to masturbate to them with no control.
In addition, IF 3 or more room users think another user is obnoxious, they need to be able to mark that user as a BAD user, thereby denying him/her access to microphone or cams.
SPAM is another problem. People should not be able to post hot links to porn sites etc.
Mebeam has great potential, but it MAY need a re-think. Possibly a ground-up redesign.
Before you reply, be aware I have been involved with VIDEO chat since Tim Dorsey developed CUSEEME way back when(1993-4). I have seen it all, and some of it was not pretty. Back when black and white cameras with tiny pictures convinced people to get naked on camera.
Disclaimer : Naked is not necessarily bad, but it can be.

Did you really read the above message ?
1. How many people can (or may) use their upload bandwidth
to use the Personal Mebeam server for 10-20 users?
2. To be able to 'quality serving', you need to substract about 30-
40% from your max. upload bandwidth. Each user takes about
25-50 KB/s (Kilo Bytes/s) from your upload bandwidth.
3. You cannot use Personal Mebeam server on a normal ISP website,
it must have an own IP, to be able to work as a server.

Actually I did read the previous post, it was lacking in How-To information.
I have 1.5 Mbps upload/ 8 Mbps Download, hence the 10-20 users part of the question. I asssumed
50 KB/S for each user and every user is viewing ALL cameras. 20 * 50 = 1000000 Kbps. This was my baseline calculation.
I also realize it has to be run from my static IP address.
I assume that if someone is not moving much, that their video stream may be lower bandwidth than the average stream with an animated(moving) user.
What I NEED is information as to HOW to make the server be available to the users.
Example :
Meserve.exe :1024(port) IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx etc
How do I envoke the server to be able to take and receive users? Is there a seperate client, do I need Flash installed, and if so which version...
What parameters need to be passed to the server for it to actually serve?
Do you see where I am going with this?

I fully understand that the developer has not been forthcomming with useable information. This is part of the problem.
I am beginning to think this is a hobby project with no real direction.
Icondial? Why, others have more robust products and many are for free. Why beat a dead horse to try to get it to move further?
ASHOD? Are you listening or even reading the forum?
