I had started using Mebeam/Minime a few weeks before servers went down
recently and then ever since the server thing all I can get to come up is a
blue box which after a minute or so will turn peach/orange. I have a network
with 2 computers doing the same, so I thought it might still be a problem with
the servers. But just last night I went up to my parents and MiniMe was
working just fine up there. I just used Mebeam to talk to my family so there
is no reason I should be banned, but could this be the problem.
What happens to let you know you are banned? or perhaps a problem with
my network but I have made no changes to my network since or before this
happened. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I was
really excited to find Mebeam and I hope I can get it working for me again.
Thank you

Hi,
Welcome to this forum.
Banning is normally caused for a valid reason, however
due to the problems lately, it could be that another thing
has caused you this trouble.
I have sent you a P.M. (Personal Message)

So still not able to get mebeam on 2 out 3 computers on my network.
Recap:
It happened on 2 computers at the same time when the servers where having problems recently and I had not made any changes to the router settings.
I'm running:
XP, Firefox, Comodo Firewall and AVG Antivirus on all three computers. (also tried in the Internet Explorer)
What happens:
-If I try to use MiniMe I only get a solid light blue box and after a little while (time varies) the whole box turns a peach color and that's it.
-Similarly If I try to use Mebeam I just get a dark blue box and then after a little while it all turns white.
I have tried:
-A check to see if it was an accidental banning problem
-Checking settings on Comodo Firewall (although it happened on 2 computers at the same time so it doesn't seem like it should be that unless it was some kind of auto update)
No joy yet.
Any ideas on things to try?
Is there any reason to mess with port settings on the router?(but that 3rd computer works fine)

Do your webcams work with other applications - Messenger Live / Yahoo! / Skype?
From my understanding of MiniMe is as you describe - after a short while it will go peach and then you should get your cam in the top left.
Are you using your own "Room" - I have configured mine for myself and thats how it works for me.
If you are getting the "Peach" it suggests to me you are connected to the server, but maybe your Webcam is not working. I'm not sure what happens if you have no cam connected, as I always do - or have WebCamMax or Splitcam running.
Have you tried switching cams ? If that is too difficult (driver conflicts), you could try downloading a trial version of WebcamMax as that allows you to select a source other than your webcam - mpg or jpg etc. At least it will eliminate one potential problem.
Doubt it is your Router if 1 PC works - unless it is in the DMZ.

Hello Warwick,
Yes I have tried the cam on Yahoo Live and it works just great (its a brand new cam)
From my limited experience using Mebeam, any time you do not have a cam it still acts as if you do and gives you a small box with mic/silent/settings in the corners just that instead of the video stream the small box is just blue in the peach large box.
The 3rd computer with Mebeam working is not in the DMZ, it is on a separate workgroup but I don't really see how that would make a difference.
I am using my own room by which I understand as making up a room name that is not likely to be created by someone else.
Thanks for your interest

@Danny: He is using windows XP.
- Did you try to disable the firewall and recheck
- Did you check which IP's / sites are in the blocking list of the firewall ?
- Are there any flash blocking plugins installed?
- Is the standard flash port 1935 blocked anywhere?

Willem,
-I have completely uninstalled Firewall with windows firewall off as well.
-I don't have flash Blocking plugins however I still disabled all plugins and also tried Internet Explorer which has no plugins.
Camsam:
-I running Firefox 3 which I uninstalled and then tried reinstall Firefox 2, and have cleared all history, cookies, etc.
-From what I have seen of mebeam and the test I am doing you do not have to have a cam installed because mebeam will still give you a little video box either way and that's the part I am not getting.
I have also tried Windows "System Restore" back a months in case it was an update or driver of some sort.
Still no luck and I must say I'm running out of ideas.

Perhaps your ISP is blocking that kind of traffic.
Perhaps the desired port is disabled or is being used by another application that takes prefference over mebeam?

@Danny: 1 of his pc's works with mebeam at the same location.
- Try resetting modem and router by unplugging it from the power
for 10-15 seconds and reconnect them again. Recheck after 2 min's.
- Put the not working Mebeam PC to the place of the working PC,
and connect with that lancable to the internet and recheck.
- Un-install and re-install the camera drivers.

@Willem....Thanks....none of the above posts indicated this. The only indication above is that Mebeam worked fine from his parents.
But 2 computers in the same network were not allowing it.....hence my point.Last edited on Sun Jul 20th, 2008 04:40 pm by dangur

could be .. too slow connection | defective cam driver | no flash or wrong version installed or at last outgoing is blocked
I have also tried Windows "System Restore" back a months in case it was an update or driver of some sort.
Still no luck and I must say I'm running out of ideas.
*check your LAN | WAN connection / bandwidth...
*check (the unknown) cam driver or reinstall new after deinstalling
*try AmCap tool (..if you got with the driver/software delivered)
*check flash version
type into FF (2.x) about:plugins (3.x open extras | addons )
and control if you have the right flash version installed (v9.x) ?
* check the outgoing Ports in your (unknown) router

well...
-I eliminated the possibility of it being network related at all by connecting on a different network and router. Still did not work so its nothing to do with the router or network.
-Then i thought I was eliminating the possibility of it being software related by installing a virtual machine first with XP and then Ubuntu and still nothing.
-Just in case the virtual machines where not really giving me a clean install. I just went ahead and made a full XP install from scratch and surprise! IT WORKED!
So I still have the second computer that was doing the same thing, I will probably keep playing around with that one just to see if I can figure it out now that I know for sure it is software related. If I figure it out I'll post it here.

Still messing around with the 1 computer where MeBeam does not work and I found something interesting.
There is a check box that I never noticed before (so I think its new), says "Record". If I check the box and go into a room it works but it will not work if its not checked.
Very interesting... so how does this "Record" thing work?
