MeBeam Video-Multichat Help.
MeBeam is a Flash based application running within a browser and
uses a lot of dedicated proprietary load-balancing servers. It is all
programmed by Ashod Apakian. MeBeam multichat has build-in audio.
There can be up to 16* people in a room, but it is depending on the
version of Mebeam. The videowindows will auto-resize depending on
the number of participants. Even a simple chat is added with a
small picture of those sending a message. MeBeam will always get
the most recent version automatically. Mebeam is in development,
so the layout and options may change back and forth...
By using MeBeam you accept its terms and conditions.
* Note: As options may differ in a newer version, read this as being global.
The number of participants in Mebeam has been temporary reduced to 6, due to too high load
on the servers. When more servers are installed, it might be set back to the original max. of 16.
How to use:
1. Type in a roomname of the room you want to create for your call
or use an existing roomname to join your friends. The room name
must have a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 16 characters.
Just use an unique private roomname like: Kate_Smile_37619
Do not use a name like: room-*** as they are the public rooms.
2. Press the Enter key or click on the "Connect" button to start and
click "Allow" to accept the Mebeam terms and conditions and to
have your video (webcam) available and be able to use MeBeam.
Your own video should appear. If not, click right mouse button
in the multichat window. A small Flash window should pop-up.
Select the Settings and you will see the Flash settings menu.
3. Click the Webcam icon to select the capturing device (webcam).
Select in the Settings the Microphone icon to set the recording
device. Check the level gauge for the correct level. The level
gauge should be at the green/yellow level, see picture. If the
sound is still too loud, it can be necessary to click the slider.
4. When hovering the mouse over the video, several clickable text
buttons will be shown. Explained below. "MIC" is default OFF.
Click "MIC" to ON to be able to speak thru the microphone.
5. Press "MIC" to OFF when finished talking to prevent echo when
not using a headset (Using a headset is recommended).
6. To invite people, copy the browser URL with the roomname and
paste these through an Instant Messenger (IM) to friends**.
7. If something is wrong, just reload the webpage and re-enter the
room you want. Have only one MeBeam screen open at a time.
8. You can use the most bottom line to input your messages.
** The format of the MeBeam invitation link (URL) is:
http://www.mebeam.com/<yourroomname>
were <yourroomname> is your chosen roomname,
Example: http://www.mebeam.com/yourroom11

Tips for better webcam settings (<= link)
Note: People who have webcams without separate control panel, try
to set the webcam to full automatic. Although the webcam will be
somewhat slower, the result will be better. Especially people with
with (the cheap) cmos type webcams: Take care for sufficient light,
otherwise the video will be slow and fuzzy! Also a cmos webcam tends
to have a higher cpu-load. In general: The less light, the slower the
webcam video will be! If you can find and afford a CCD based webcam
with quality glass optics: Much faster and more light sensitive!
